The Department of Philosophy of Palacký University Olomouc invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of ecophenomenology and/or environmental philosophy, preferably with a focus on climate emotions. This is a fully-funded research position (1 FTE) for 30 months starting in June 2024.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on a project exploring the affective dimensions of the environmental crisis. The project will examine whether certain climate emotions, such as climate anxiety and fear, need to be framed negatively as psychopathological conditions, or whether they can also be seen as having transformative or action-inducing potential. Positive emotions, such as climate hope and optimism, will then be analysed particularly in relation to their capacity to provide subjective meaning through the engagement of individuals in pro-environmental behaviour. The project builds on existential-phenomenological theories of emotion (Heidegger, Sartre, Kierkegaard, Tillich, Marcel and others), but the methodology of the project is open to other, either analytical or continental, perspectives on climate emotions.

• Completion of a PhD within 5 years of the start date of employment

• Research background related to the research focus of the project, such as phenomenology, ecophenomenology, environmental philosophy
