Guide to the Recruitment Process at Palacký University Olomouc

Would you like to work in an inspiring academic and research environment? Have you found one of our academic or research positions interesting? Palacký University Olomouc (UP) welcomes new colleagues from among academics, researchers and experts from the field.

This guide will walk you through the entire recruitment process – from submitting your application to the final evaluation – and offer practical tips on preparing for each step.

Announcement of a Vacancy

  • All current job offers are available at pracuj.upol.cz/en or on the official notice boards of UP faculties and units.
  • Each advertisement always includes a detailed description of the position, from job responsibilities and required qualifications to skills, contract type, and workload.
  • Every position is assigned to a specific research profile (R1–R4), so you can immediately see whether it suits your career stage.
  • You usually have 30 days from the publication of the advertisement to submit your application.
  • Our offers can also be found on the EURAXESS portal or Czech job portals (e.g., jobs.cz).

Submitting Your Application

  • We recommend submitting your application electronically. No electronic signature is required.
  • Alternative methods of submitting applications (by post, email, or data box) are always specified in the advertisement.
  • Copies or scanned documents are sufficient – originals will only be required when signing the contract.
  • We will inform you by email once your application has been received. We will let you know if anything is missing and ask you to supplement it.

The Recruitment Process

  • Recruitment typically takes place in two rounds.
  • In the first round, your qualifications, experience, language skills, and other skills will be checked and assessed.
  • If you meet the formal requirements, you will be invited to the second round, which consists of a personal or online interview (via MS Teams) with the selection committee. You will be informed of the rules for the online interview in advance.
  • The committee always consists of at least five members from the academic community and workplace management, including the direct supervisor of the advertised position.

Candidate Evaluation

Our aim is a fair, transparent, and equal evaluation of all candidates:

  • No one is disadvantaged based on age, gender, nationality, or personal circumstances.
  • Career breaks (e.g., parental leave) are not considered a disadvantage but a natural part of a professional career.

We primarily assess academic education, teaching experience, publications and research projects, student supervision, teamwork, international mobility, and science outreach.

Results of the Recruitment Process

  • Within 30 days of the end of the second round, we will send you the results by e-mail, letter, or data message.
  • If you are not successful in the second round, we will provide you with feedback on your participation.
  • If you have any doubts about the recruitment procedure, you can file an official complaint per UP’s internal regulations (B3-08/2-SR-ÚZ02 – Handling of Complaints and Petitions).

In Conclusion

  • Recruitment at UP is governed by the Academic Staff Recruitment Policy of Palacký University Olomouc (A-3/2017-ÚZ01) and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (OTM-R system).
  • In justified cases, the recruitment procedure may be cancelled – you will always be informed of this fact.
